FAQ SAP S/4 HANA

SAP S/4HANA is a real-time ERP solution that succeeds SAP's former flagship product: SAP ERP.

The S in the product name stands for Simple, 4 for the fourth generation product and HANA for the underlying database technology.

It depends very much on the customisation. In any case, SAP S/4HANA is expected to set up a new licence agreement, new hardware and a transformation project tailored to the specific company. In this way, it ensures the greatest success and maximum durability.

In order to switch to SAP S/4HANA, individual adjustments must always be made. Although it is an individual matter, there are pre-scripted paths for it.

One can start with different approaches:

  • Greenfield approach: Here you literally start on a greenfield site. Here, SAP S/4HANA is set up as the ERP from scratch. This is advantageous if the existing ERP has grown over the years and become extremely complex as a result. If SAP S/4HANA is newly implemented, unnecessary costs can be drastically reduced due to historical complexity. The new installation is based on best-practice processes; existing data and extensions can be adopted.
  • Brownfield approach: Here, not only are all settings, data and configurations retained, but the existing ERP is also converted. It is therefore an extremely extensive upgrade rather than a new installation. This variant requires fewer resources and is less cost-intensive. Here, Nagarro ES' approach also deliberately provides for a technical conversion first, in which the system is transformed to SAP S/4HANA. The second step is then about leveraging the enormous innovation potential of SAP S/4HANA.
  • Other approaches: These were each developed for specific situations and fall somewhere between Brownfield and Greenfield. The shell approach, for example, is close to brownfield; it reuses large parts of the ERP and adds a few new adjustments. In the Mix&Match approach, on the other hand, large parts of the ERP are set up with new adaptations and the smaller part of the existing ERP is adopted.

KPS uses international standards and best practices (ISTQB, modular testing, etc.) in SAP and e-commerce projects. KPS positions test management as a project management discipline. The test managers have in-depth industry knowledge and thus implement a test management strategy adapted to the customer-specific situation. 

Quality assurance is an essential part of software development. It includes any systematic process to determine whether a service or product meets predefined requirements. In SAP projects, non-functional (load, stress tests, etc.) and functional types of tests are used (component tests, integration tests, acceptance tests).

First of all, S/4HANA does not have the same main functions as SAP ECC and SAP Business Suite. But the main difference between the two systems is that SAP ECC also runs on Oracle databases, while S/4HANA only works on HANA.
